Affectionately known as the “Chang Gang,” brother-and-sister chef team Valerie and Nando Chang grew up in a Peruvian-Chinese household in a coast town in Peru, learning to cook from their father in restaurants and grandmother’s kitchen. Their family made their way to Miami and today run three of Miami’s most beloved restaurants: Itamae, a Nikkei-style concept celebrating Japanese and Peruvian flavors that will reopen as an omakase concept later this year; B-Side By Itamae, a Nikkei-inspired sushi spot in the Miami Design District; and Maty’s, a Peruvian concept that opened his past year. Maty’s was recently recognized as one of Bon Appetit’s “Best New Restaurants of 2023” and The New York Times’ Restaurant List 2023. Shake Shack has admired the Changs for many years and is excited to partner with them to bring a unique, Nikkei-inspired menu to the masses during Miami Art Week.
A fine artist, painter, installation artist and graphic designer, Eric Junker channels his restless energy into creating art and design inspired by the colliding energies of his life in urban Los Angeles and his passion for nature and outdoor adventure. Over the years, Eric has worked on projects with brands like Louis Vuitton, Coach and Target, as well as some of the most famous chefs in the country, including Nancy Silverton, Roy Choi and Andrew Carmellini. Eric studied art and design at UCLA and is currently a lecturer at the University of Southern California’s Roski School of Art and Design. Following successful mural collaborations with Shake Shack, this Miami Art Week collab comes as the capstone to Eric's latest venture with the brand: the recent revamp of Shake Shack’s canned wines, now adorned with his distinctive artwork and rolling out nationwide. For this event, Eric created designs inspired by the Shake Shack x Maty's menu, that will be featured as part of an immersive art installation. Each night, attendees can channel their inner artist and leave an imprint on life-size murals.
As a part of Shake Shack’s larger mission to stand for Something Good®, 25% of ticket proceeds will support Food Rescue South Florida in its efforts to combat hunger and support local food banks.
